Blue Spruce

The blue spruce, or Colorado blue spruce as it is sometimes called, does indeed grow in the mountains of Colorado and in other western states as well.  I’ve seen entire mountainsides covered with these lovely trees.

There are three blue spruces in my yard. The new growth on the branches is clearly different in color the the older growth as can be seen in the photograph.  Spruces branch out in a whorl pattern and typically add a foot a year to their height.
