Old Tennent Church

This church existed during colonial times.  It is said that some of the pews have blood stains on them from when wounded soldiers were carried into the church.

I liked the way that the sunlight just grazes the shingles.

Chamberlain & Barclay

This warehouse in Cranbury, New Jersey, is used for local distribution of agricultural products such as fertilizer. It has been in business for many years. The weathering on the sides of the building gives an interesting visual effect.

This is a pretty falls located in Shenandoah National Park along the Skyline Drive. Getting to the falls involves some hiking.

The Musician

William E. Darst

© Don Klotzbeacher

A friend of mine, William Darst, asked to have photos made which he could send to his family. Here he appears as a drummer. He was also a baritone vocalist, plus played Baroque violin and various gambas as well. I enjoyed making early music with him because he was so talented.

The dog’s name was Dolphus.

Photographed in Zion, New Jersey.

Di Brizzi’s Lake-Freeze

Di Brizzi's Freeze (Jamesburg NJ)

Frozen custard is one of my favorite desserts.  I bought plenty of it at Di Brizzi’s Lake-Freeze back in the 70s.  It used to be located across from Lake Manalapan in Jamesburg, New Jersey.

The ornamental ice cream cone on the roof of this drive-in was an eye-catcher for many years.  Alas, no more.

Save the Barns

© Don Klotzbeacher

Many old and venerable buildings have bit the dust. This barn is probably gone by now.  Area residents have made an effort to save some of them.

I took this photograph back in March of 1976. At the time I was acquainting myself with view camera movements — having recently acquired a Calumet 4×5 camera.

Exposure 1/30 sec. at f22 using Caltar 215mm lens.  Tri-X developed for 7 minutes in Kodak HC-110B.

Magnolia Tree

I was looking through some 4×5 chromes and came across a picture taken during magnolia season at Princeton University.  It was taken in April 1978 and still looks surprisingly good.  So I decided to scan it in my HP Scanjet 4890.  Only a couple of adjustments in Photoshop were deemed appropriate to help normalize the color and luminosity.

One reason I like this photograph is that my Calumet view camera was able to maintain the verticals using perspective controls.  In this case, a 215mm Caltar lens with an Acme shutter was used. Ektachrome 64: f32 @ 1/10 sec.
